BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ENGLISH, LITERATURE AND SOCIOLOGY

COURSE INTRODUCTION

English, Literature and Sociology are an integral part of communication, creative expression and socialization. The crucial role of English as Kenya‘s official language and its role in bringing understanding among the peoples of Kenya with the rest of the world cannot be over emphasized. Its expanded use requires effective interaction at interpersonal, national and international levels. The BA programme is designed toequip students with theoretical knowledge of various aspects of the English language, Literature and Sociology. Students will be required to acquire a high level of proficiency in the use of English as an international language in addition to literary and social analytical skills in order to enhance their creativity, critical thinking and self-expression.

  • By the end of the programme, the learner is expected to: Use language appropriately in a variety of contexts.
  • Gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills for professional competence in literary scholar‘s and creative writer‘s crafts;
  • Harness their critical insights for appreciation of literature, art and culture within the spheres of development and social change;

Any applicant who meets the minimum entry requirements for admission into the University may be admitted into this programme. Admission may be granted to Diploma holders with at least a credit or its equivalent in criminology or related areas or Police Science from recognized institutions

All students shall take the units in the First and Second years of study. Students will pursue the 3.3.2.2. structure, meaning they shall take courses in Linguistics, Literature, Sociology and University Common Courses in Years one and two. In Years three and four, students shall take Linguistics and Literature, Linguistics and Sociology, or Literature and Sociology. The programme will be offered on a full-time and part-time modes of study.

Full Time  Ksh – 68,500 per Semester

Online Learining (Odel) – Ksh – 54,500 per Semester
