BACHELOR OF ARTS IN GOVERNMENT AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

COURSE INTRODUCTION

In a rapidly changing world, there is need to train graduates who are well versed with local, national, regional and international trends in governance and global affairs. It is in appreciation of the importance of both glocalization and globalization in contemporary governance and inter-state relations that the Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Relations programme has been designed. The B.A. (Government and International Relations) offers a wide range of courses that resonates well with the processes of governance, devolution, public policies, security, international affairs and terrorism currently vogue in an increasingly international system.

Upon completion of the course, the students should be able to:

 

  • Demonstrate a broad and balanced knowledge in governance and international relations.
  • Discuss the interface between governance and conflicts and their implications to individuals, communities, regions and the larger Commonwealth Nations.
  • Provide practical leadership at every level of governance and make intellectually sound decisions that pre-empt disruptive conflicts and de-escalate them whenever they occur.

All candidates admitted to the programme must satisfy the minimum common entry requirements of Tharaka University which is currently a mean Grade of C+. In addition, candidates must have obtained a minimum score of C+ in History, English and Kiswahili. A candidate with a Diploma in a relevant field will also be eligible for admission into the programme.

 

All students shall take the units in the First and Second years of study. Students will pursue the 3.3.2.2. structure, meaning they shall take courses in Linguistics, Literature, Sociology and University Common Courses in Years one and two. In Years three and four, students shall take Linguistics and Literature, Linguistics and Sociology, or Literature and Sociology. The programme will be offered on a full-time and part-time modes of study.

Full Time  Ksh – 68,500 per Semester

Online Learining (Odel) – Ksh – 54,500 per Semester
