The Bachelor of Co-operative Management is a four year course intended to equip students with business management; ethical and technological skills required by the co-operative movement and other related businesses. It lays emphasis on co-operative management and development skills that prepares students for careers in the co-operative movement, private and public sector.
At the end of this programme, the learner is expected to:
Effectively manage resources at their disposal according to contemporary economic, business management and technological trends;
Carry out research with a view to finding solutions to contemporary problems affecting business development at various scales;
Analyse the complex relationship between the national economy and global economic trends
Have acquired knowledge, skills and attitudes for pursuing further studies in Co-operative Management.
Critically evaluate business and management issues, develop solutions from the ethical, professional and academic perspectives.
The entry requirements set out below are only minimum, and do not in any way entitle an applicant to a place in the University. Have the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with mean grade C+ (C plus) passed at one sitting from subject groupings specified by the Kenya National Examination Council or its equivalent, OR Have one of the following combinations of passes in Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) – Two (2) Principals and a subsidiary pass obtained at the same sitting; OR Two (2) Principals and a subsidiary pass obtained at different sittings. Hold a Diploma with at least a “Credit” or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution in the relevant field of specialization acceptable to the Senate. Admission may be offered to CPA II and diploma holders in Co-operative Management, Banking, Finance, Agri-Business, Marketing, Insurance and Risk Management and Management Science disciplines passed with a credit or higher or their equivalent. Such cases will be treated on individual merit. Meet additional or specific entry requirements as may be specified by the respective Department, Faculty, School, Institute, or professional regulatory bodies offering the Degree programme.
Courses taken to fulfil graduation requirements are drawn from a cluster of University Common Core courses and from those specified by Faculties and Departments. In order to fulfil the graduation requirements for Bachelor of Co-operative management degree, candidates are required to take and pass at least 173 credit factors of courses approved by the Senate. The modes of delivery shall be: Full-time, Evening, Part-time, Bi-semester, Trimester, E-leaning and School based. Full Time Students shall be required to complete at least 21 CFs each semester. The Bachelor of Co-operative Management degree programme takes FOUR academic years comprising of eight semesters for full time students.
Part-time students may be allowed to cover the programme within EIGHT academic years.
