CERTIFICATE IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) continues to change rapidly, creating new opportunities and challenges. The discipline is relatively new and areas formally thought not possible to apply computer technology continue to provide new opportunities. The Certificate in Computer Science prepares candidates for a career in the ICT industry. It is designed to meet the increasing demand in the work place for ICT professionals with technical skills and the capacity to offer support in the implementation of IT-based solutions in business. The course is made up of 14 units. It focuses on issues surrounding developing, implementation and management of computer software as well as introduction to principles that are core to computer science. The programme introduces students to physics and mathematics which are crucial to better understanding of computer science fundamentals.

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Promote ethical practices and integrate gender issues in community development. Conceptualize and articulate emerging development issues in communities.
  • Pursue further studies related to community development.

Candidates must have obtained a minimum mean Grade of D+ (Plus) at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent. OR Candidates must have obtained a minimum of mean Grade D (Plain) at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent plus 2 year‘s relevant work experience. In addition, candidates must have obtained D (plain) in English or Kiswahili.

The programme is offered for a period of 2 semesters and seven units are taught in each semester. In semester one, students are introduced to physics and mathematical concepts relevant in the computer science discipline. This is in addition to core computer science units. The mode of delivery shall be Full time, Part time; The method of delivery shall be lectures, demonstrations, discussions and practicals.

Full Time  Ksh = 30,000/ per Semester
