Diploma in Education (Arts) secondary option is tailored towards preparing students to teach Arts and Humanities at secondary school level. The Programme puts into consideration the requirements of the current secondary school curriculum thus being practical in nature. The graduand of the Programme will obtain a Diploma in Education (Arts) secondary option of Chuka University.
By the end of the Programme , the learner should be able to:
Apply acquired knowledge, skills and attitudes in educational issues
Apply the acquired knowledge, skills and attitudes to influence educational policy, Programme s and general development of educational institutions.
Pursue advanced training in education in both professional and specialized subject areas
Chuka University rules and regulations for admission into Diploma in education secondary option shall apply. The candidate must have passed KCSE with a mean grade of C+(plus) and a grade of C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects from the following: History, Kiswahili, English, Geography, Religious studies, Business studies and Mathematics. In addition, the candidate must have a minimum of C (Plain) in English or Kiswahili.
The Diploma in Education Programme takes a minimum period of three academic years. Each academic year consists of two semesters. In addition, students shall take 12 weeks of Teaching Practice during which they shall also carry out a learning resource project in one of their teaching subject. The minimum CFs for the Programme shall be 90 CFs. Professional courses offered for the Programme include: Educational Foundations; Educational Administration, Planning and Economics; Educational Psychology and Counselling, and Curriculum and Instruction. The Programme will be offered in fulltime, part-time, ODEL and blended approaches.
Full Time Ksh – 35,000 per Semester
