DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT

COURSE INTRODUCTION

The proposed programme title shall be Diploma in Insurance Management. The diploma in insurance management offers a wide range of knowledge and skills to students, which is necessary for them to respond to various issues in business field, particularly in the Practice and management of insurance within the organization. It is a two academic year programme with four semesters.

By the end of this course, the graduate should be able to:

  • Market and sell insurance products and services.
  •  
  • Provide technical and supervisory support in an insurance setting.
  •  
  • Work in in non-insurance organizations in areas of insurance and risk management.
  •  
  • Start and operate insurance business which in turn will contribute to job creation.
  •  
  • Select and apply management paradigms in appropriate business situations.

The common University admission criterion is applicable. In addition: The candidate must have obtained at least a mean grade of C (plain) at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) level or Division III at Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) or equivalent qualification. The candidate must have also obtained at least a D+ (plus) in mathematics or Business Studies and at least a C- (Minus) in English or Kiswahili. Candidates with mean grades of C (Plain) but have less than C-(Minus) in mathematics and English or Kiswahili can be admitted after bridging in the respective subjects. Candidates with credit in certificate in Business from Institutions recognized by the Tharaka University Senate, and having a mean grade of D+ (plus) or equivalent in their K.C.S.E, are also eligible for admission.

The duration of the course is two (2) academic years comprising of four (4) semesters and 8 weeks of field attachment. In order to fulfill the graduation requirements for Diploma in Human Resource Management, candidates are required to take and pass all 94 credit factors (C.Fs) of courses approved by the Senate. The mode of delivery shall be fulltime, part-time, evening, weekend, school based and ODEL.

Full Time  Ksh – 35,000 per Semester
