The need for leaders with integrity in all sectors is the main facet of the society today. According to the Kenyan Constitution, all public officers should be persons of high integrity. The diploma programme in Leadership and Public Administration (LAPA) is designed in line with the Constitution of Kenya (2010) to produce effective leaders and public servants of high integrity in all areas/sectors in Kenya and beyond.

Apart from equipping students with leadership skills to enable address the various challenges facing the Kenyan society today, the course will provide a firm foundation for those intending to pursue further studies in Leadership and Public Administration; and related fields. The Diploma in Leadership and Public Administration targets leaders of various sectors, public servants and citizens in Kenya and beyond. It targets upcoming and practicing administrators and managers in the public and private sectors who would like to improve their leadership skills. This programme is developed and designed for aspiring and serving state officers like County Representatives, Women Representatives, County Officers, County Administrators, County Secretaries, County Directors, Serving Public Officers like Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, Social Workers, Community Development Workers as well as workers in Private Sector. County leaders, national leaders, Leaders of various NGO‘s and companies, Church leaders, Leaders of institutions such as schools, colleges and universities, banks, law enforcement agencies, anti-corruption agencies will benefit immensely from this programme.

By the end of the programme, the students should be able to:

Acquire appropriate professional skills and knowledge in leadership and integrity in the management of public affairs.

Appreciate the role of leadership in the county, national and global development.

Apply the principles of effective leadership in the administration and management of various sectors in the country.

Integrate values of integrity in the leadership at various levels and sectors, in the country and beyond.

Apply necessary leadership skills to effectively solve and address various issues affecting the lives of people in the country and beyond.

The following shall be eligible for the registration in this programme: Holders of KCSE certificate with a mean grade of C (plain) or its equivalent, OR Holders of a Certificate in Leadership, Management, PublicAdministration,orrelatedqualificationrecognizedbyTharakaUniversityCollege,ORHoldersof a degree in any field qualify for this programme. The Course shall take a period of two years. The Course shall be done by coursework and examinations. The mode of study shall be full-time, distance, evenings and weekends (Students shall take the mode most appropriate with them). A candidate shall take at least twenty eight (28) units and write a Research project. A module shall be equivalent to 45 hours. Each unit shall have 3 Credit Factors (CFs) except the Project which shall have 6 CFs. The minimum Credit Factors to be done by a student before graduating is 90 CFs. Those with a Certificate shall be liable for credit transfer
