The Doctor of Philosophy in Communication and Mass Media Studies programme is designed to equip graduates with the hilghest level of theory and professional skills in communication for service in journalistic media, corporate and development establishments and, academic institutions. The programme is tailored to suit professionals ready to take up leadership positions in the industry. This programme will address three key options, namely Print and Electronic Journalism, Development Communication, and Corporate Communications.
On completion of the programme, the graduates will be able to:
Admission into the Doctor of Philosophy in Communication and Mass Media Studies is extended to students with a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication or any other relevant master’s degree in social sciences. The regulations for the admission to the PhD programmes as specified in the Tharaka University Statutes shall apply.
Full-time candidates for the PhD degree shall be registers for a minimum of thirty-six (36) months or three academic years. Candidates must successfully complete coursework before commencing on thesis writing. Any extension of the duration for study beyond three years should be approved by the senate. The Doctor of Philosophy in Communication and Mass Media degree shall be undertaken by Coursework, Examinations and Thesis. The coursework shall constitute a minimum of 30 CFs. Thesis will constitute 15 CFs.
