MASTER OF ARTS IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Geography enables students to appreciate the complexity of our world and the diversity of its environments, economies and cultures. Postgraduate Students can use this knowledge to find out solutions to unique challenges in the daily endeavors.

 

At the end of this training, the graduate should be able to:

  • Have deeper knowledge of religious education so as to prepare for careers in this area.
  • Undertake research in religion and other related disciplines such as history, philosophy, sociology, ethics, literature and geography so as to have a scientific and critical approach to human development.

A candidate must satisfy the common regulations for Master of Arts degree of Tharaka University. The candidate must have obtained at least an Upper Second Class Bachelor‘s degree BA/B.Ed. in Religious Studies, Theology, Social Education and Ethics or its equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning. The candidate must also have studied Religion, Theology, Social Education or Ethics as a major subjectatBachelor‘sdegreelevelandmusthaveobtainedaminimumaveragegradeof―C‖or50%inthe subject. Holders of second class honours lower division may be admitted if they have at least two years relevant workexperience.

The Master of Arts degree programme in Religious Studies shall extend over a minimum period of 18 months and a maximum of 36 months for full-time students, and a minimum period of 24 months and a maximum period of 42 months for part-time students. The MA (Religious Studies) programme is structured in such a way that the candidates will cover the main areas namely: Judaism; Christianity; Islam; African TraditionalReligion;AfricanNewChristianMovement;Ethics;ComparativeReligion,Buddhism,Hinduism and others. In their final year, they will specialize in the area of their interest. The programme shall consist of coursework, examination and thesis. The candidates will take and be examined with a minimum of 10 courses offered in the Department, which will be distributed over twosemesters.

Full Time  Ksh – 120,000 per Semester
