COURSE INTRODUCTION

Trends in globalisation and liberalisation for local and international economies, both public and private sectors require human resource with appropriate knowledge and skills necessary for efficient and effective planning, development and management in competitive changing economic environments. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme addresses the need to develop individuals with essential knowledge, skills and techniques for managerial careers. This programme caters for participants who have undergone prior business training as well as those whose professional background and pursuits are in other disciplines. As such, this programme is designed to meet the educational and technical needs of various professional fields of study.

At the end of the programme, the learner should be able to:

 

Formulate, implement and control strategy in a dynamic business environment

 

Report financial transactions and events of an entity to the users of the information according to relevant standard.

 

Source, allocate and controlthe usage of funds for effective realization of organizational goals.

 

Apply information technology in the conduct of business.

 

Effectively manage human resource required for maximum contribution towards achieving organizational goals

 

Effectively participate in the management and improvement of quality of a company’s operations.

 

Admission shall be offered to holders of atleast a Bachelor’s degree with a second class honours(upper Division) or equivalent qualification from institutions recognized by the Senate. The Senate may also admit to the Master of Business Administration a holder of second class honours (Lower Division) provided the candidate has two years’ work experience in a relevant field.

(a)    The Doctorate programme shall be conducted through coursework, research, thesis and oral examinations and sometimes postgraduate courses may be recommended to strengthen the candidate in specialised area of choice.

(b)    Candidates may register for full-time or part-time doctorate programme. Full-time programme shall run for a minimum of 36 consecutive months and a period not exceeding 60 consecutive months, unless with prior approved deferment. Part-time programme shall run for a period not exceeding 84 consecutive months, unless with prior approved deferment.

(c)    A candidate may be discontinued on failure to demonstrate positive progress for two consecutive reporting quarters unless with prior approved deferment.

(d) The programme requires a minimum of fourty-five (45) CFs of coursework and thesis. A student may take extra courses over and above the required number of units. A student may choose courses subject to the approval of the department. A candidate for this programme may be exempted from part or whole of coursework requirement provided the senate is satisfied that the candidate had done and passed at Masters level course(s) equivalent to the prescribed course(s).

Full Time  Ksh-120,000/= per year science based
