MASTER OF EDUCATION IN EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONS

COURSE INTRODUCTION

This Programme is designed to produce professionals that are capable of: analyzing the role of education in the processes of economic growth, political development, and social change; examining educational policy issues and locating their solutions within local and international contexts; and making informed contributions to contemporary debates about educational theory and practice, and solutions thereto. The Programme prepares high-level personnel for universities, colleges, government, international and local educational agencies, in the area of teaching, research, policy analysis, educational administration and development education.

By the end of this Programme , the learner should be able to:

  • Identify and develop the intellectual needs of the learner in relation to cognitive aspect.
  • Gain the intellectual, professional and social characteristics that will enable them to become responsible leaders within the school, community and nation at large.
  • Contribute meaningfully to the national goals of education and development that would assist in formulating generative and proper policies for national development.
  • Conduct training and carry out research in education and in their areas of specialization
  • Further education and training in their areas of interest and specialization.

The common regulations for Master’s degree of Tharaka University College Statutes shall apply. The general regulations for Master’s degree in the Faculty of Education and Resource Development shall apply. In addition, the following shall be eligible for admission to the Master’s degree in Educational Foundations: Holder of Bachelor of Education (Science), Bachelor of Education (Arts), Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Education and Extension), or Bachelor of Education (Agriculture and Home Economics) with at least upper second class honours upper division from Tharaka University College or any other recognized University. OR Holder of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree with at least second class honours upper division, plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Tharaka University College or any other institution recognized by the Academic Board; OR Holder of degree with second class honours lower division shall be eligible for admission if they have relevant postgraduate training acceptable to Tharaka University College Academic Board, or they have at least two years’ work experience in their field of specialization.

The Master of Education in Educational Foundations degree shall, in accordance with the rules and regulations for the Master’s degree Programmes of Tharaka University College, extend for a period of not less than 18 months and not more than 36 months for full-time students, and not more than 48 months for part-time students.

Full Time  Ksh-120,000/= per year
