The Master of Philosophy in Education; Early Childhood Development and Education (ECD) is designed to give specialists in early childhood education the necessary competencies in Early Childhood Development which is the basis of human resource development. Increasingly, Programme rs are being developed to provide services directly and indirectly to infants and young children as well as their families within the learning institutions and other in other related set ups. The professional education degree leading to Master of philosophy in Early Childhood Development and Education of Chuka University is designed to prepare graduates who can assist in preparing pre- school and primary school teachers, teacher trainers, administrators and curriculum developers among other service providers. The dynamics in the current society demand for highly skilled academicians, researchers and practitioners in the areas of Early Childhood Development and Education to promote appropriate growth and development of the child to the optimum levels.
By the end of the Programme the learner should be able to:
Admission shall be offered to: Holders of B.Ed degree in early childhood Development and Education with at least second class honours upper division from Chuka University or Commission for University Education and the University Senate. Holders of B.Ed degree in Education- Primary Option with at least second class honours upper division from Chuka University or any other institution recognized by Commission for University Education and the University Senate. Holders of B.Ed degree with at least second class honours lower division from Chuka University or any other institution recognized by Commission for University Education and the University Senate can be admitted provided they have a minimum of 2 years work experience. OR Holders of B.Sc or B.A general degree with Postgraduate Diploma in Education from an institution recognized by Commission for University Education and the University Senate.
Full time Master of Education shall extend for a minimum period of 18 months and a maximum of 36 months. School based Master of Education shall extend for a minimum of 30 months and a maximum of 48 months. The Programme will consist of course work, examinations and thesis. The candidates for M.Ed will spend the first year doing course work and examinations and do thesis research in the second year. The course work and thesis shall constitute 30 CFs and 15 CFs, respectively. All students will be required to take eleven (12) units, 6 compulsory course and a minimum of 6 elective courses. This Programme will be offered by face to face and e-learning modes.
Full Time Ksh-120,000/= per year
