MASTER OF SCIENCE IN BOTANY (PLANT PATHOLOGY)

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Plant pathology is an interdisciplinary science that aims to train professionals who specialize in plant health as much as physicians specialize in human health or veterinarians in animal health. Plant diseases cause loss of billions of shillings’ worth of crops and forests yearly worldwide. Clearly, plant diseases do have a significant impact in human welfare worldwide. This calls for the need to train a cadre of qualified scientists to handle these challenges. These professionals will study plant diseases with the goal of keeping plants healthy and thereby reducing the impact of plant diseases on the plants that maintain mankind.

At the completion of the training in Master of Science in Botany (Plant Pathology) the learner is expected to;

Describe the causal agents, nature and dynamics of plant diseases

Develop an appreciation for the importance of plant diseases to humans

Discuss the basic biology of the major groups of plant pathogens

Describe the principles of plant disease formation and control
