The Master of Science in Computer Science is a postgraduate programme that equips candidates with the theory and practice of Computer Science. It aims to meet the increasing demand for computing professionals and researchers. The programme blends theory with the latest state-of-the-art Industry-based courses, thus adequately preparing the candidates to make relevant contributions towards the national goals, Vision 2030 and beyond.

Holders of a Bachelors degree of Tharaka University College in Computer science of at least Upper Second Class Honours or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognised by Tharaka University College Academic Board.
Holders of a Bachelors degree of Tharaka University College in Computer Science, of Lower Second Class Honours or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognised by Tharaka University College Academic Board. In addition, they must have demonstrable relevant experience of at least two years.

The course shall be administered by coursework, examination and thesis. The programme will take TWO academic years. In the first year of study, the student studies a mixture of compulsory computer science courses drawn from key thematic areas. In the second year of study the student is required to select an area of specialization from four computer science thematic areas namely: computer networks and distributed systems, computer systems security and forensics, software engineering and computation intelligence. In addition, the student is required to carry out research in the thematic area of specialization and write a thesis under the guidance of the University approved supervisor(s). The programme shall extend for a minimum period of 18 months and a maximum of 36 months for full time students and a maximum of 48 months for part time students. The courses will be offered in full-time and part-time. The method of delivery shall be Lectures, discussions, practicals, presentations.
