MASTER OF SCIENCE IN FINANCE

COURSE INTRODUCTION

The recent trends of globalisation and liberalisation for local and international economics, both public and private sectors require human resource with appropriate knowledge and skills necessary for efficient and effective planning, development and management in competitive changing economic environments. The M.Sc. in Finance programme offers a unique opportunity for students to develop an appreciation of current developments in the financial and corporate sectors, and to study advanced theory and practice relating to finance, accounting, Banking and insurance.

At the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

 

Demonstrate knowledge of key generic and specific areas of Finance, Accounting, Investments, Banking and Insurance;

 

Pursue a senior level professional career in Finance, Accounting, Investments, Banking and Insurance;

 

Evaluate practical business experience from an academic, practical and a critical perspective;

 

Exhibit professional and problem-solving attitude in the fields of Finance, Accounting, Investments, Banking and Insurance; and

 

Demonstrate high-level financial management skills for the region and beyond.

 

 

 

The common University rules and regulations for the Masters Degree programmes shall apply. In addition: A holder of at least aBachelors degree (upper second class honours ) in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Insurance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics and any other related discipline. A holder of a Bachelors degree (lower second class honours) in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Insurance, Economics, Mathematics and  Statistics with at least two years of relevant work experience

The programme of study for the MSc. Finance consists of course work, examination and a research project. To be awarded a MSc. Finance degree, a candidate must successfully complete forty-eight (48) taught credit factors (CFs) and a research project which will be equivalent to nine (9) CFs. The sixteen (16) courses consist of ten (10) core courses, four units in the thematic areasof study and any two (2) electives. Each course will comprise 45 lectures hours and be examined at the end of the semester by a 3 hour examination, except the seminar & proposal writing which will comprise of 15 lecture hours and 60 practical hours. The programme will be offered on full-time or part-time mode. Part-time mode will done on Weekend, Evening, School-based and E-learning. Full-time candidate shall take fifteen to eighteen (15-18) CFs per semester. Part-time candidate shall be allowed to take a minimum of 6 CFs and a maximum of fifteen (18) CFs per semester. A Part-time candidate will take a maximum of 8 semesters (fouracademic years). Course units can only be taken after the necessary prerequisites have been successfully completed, where applicable. The minimum registration period will be two (2) academic years.

Full Time  Ksh-120,000/= per year science based
