MASTERS IN COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Geography enables students to appreciate the complexity of our world and the diversity of its environments, economies and cultures. Postgraduate Students can use this knowledge to find out solutions to unique challenges in the daily endeavors.

 

By the end of the programme, learners should be able to:

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and interpersonal relationships. Identify and specify client problems and needs.
  • Perform individual and group counselling therapies Carry out psychological assessments and measurements.
  • Demonstrate social sensitivity in counselling and keep in touch with national needs and trends

Admission shall be offered to holders of first degree in psychology or counselling psychology, with at least upper second class honours or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution by Tharaka University College. Admission may also be offered to holders of a first degree with a lower second class honours and relevant experience in research or teaching at recognized institutions of higherlearning.

 

Full-time candidates shall be registered for a minimum of eighteen (18) months and a maximum of thirty  six

(36) months, and registered for a minimum of 9 CFs per semester. Part-time candidates shall be registered as students for maximum of (4) academic years, and must register for a minimum of 6 CFs per semester. Full- time candidates shall be required to spend the first 12 months of study in residence at the University. There shallbetwooptionsforaMaster‘sinCounsellingpsychologyprogrammewhichshallbebytwooptions,namely: Course work, examination and thesis; and Course work, examination and project. The methods of teaching shall be lectures, discussions, practicum sessions, online materials, presentations and case studies.

Full Time  Ksh – 120,000 per Semester
